Off to the Races!

So this weekend was a busy one. Unfortunately, I mean busy in my regular life, not in my writing. However, Iw as able to hash out a little bit of detail on the races for Multiversal's setting. Each of the races, in addition to having a general concept, now has

  • Modifiers.

  • A Size (listed by category and in meters).

  • A description.

  • A mandatory Talent.

  • A racial bonus.

What each of these are; Modifiers, as may be determined by the name, are the bonuses and penalties that each race applies its values. Most of these onle affect 3 Stats, the to hit, and the damage, though there are some that affect 5 or 6 Stats in addition to the to hit and damage. However, it's important to note that all the size modifiers are included as well. Size is pretty self explanatory. Humans are assumed to be "medium" characters at about 1.5-2 meters tall with an average of about 1.7-1.8. Each size category below basically halves the one above it while each above adds about half. Size affects both Stats AND derived values, though again those values are included in the Modifiers. Howeve, size can also be an important thing to remember in game play. Walking along a 30cm ledge would be MUCH easier for a 1 meter tall (small) character than a 3 meter tall character (Huge). The description gives an idea of what each race is like, how their societies differ, and what might drive them. While this may not be used by all players, it would give them more information to roleplay in non-combat situations. For instance, if the group is in an area dominated by a matriarchical society the male players may be at a disadvantage in finding equipment, sale prices, information, etc.

Mandatroy talents are included to show different abilities and tendancies of different races, just as they are explained in Multiversal Light. Racial bonuses are special bonuses that characters have. Some racial bonuses may be used in any situation, such as a bonus to any climb checks, while others are more limited, such as a bonus only to climbing trees. However, it is important to note that the more limited the racial bonus is in use, the greater the actual bonus is when it is used.
